The presence of a full-time or part-time release local president or local leader will add to the effectiveness with which the locals can contribute to the union’s Strategic Focus, Plan, and Priorities. Our aim is that NYSUT locals will utilize this program with an increased willingness ensure local union leaders have paid time off during work hours to conduct union business on behalf of union membership.

This grant applications may be used for the following:

1. Cover the 10% State affiliate contribution for an application to the National Education Association LOCAL PRESIDENT RELEASE TIME PROGRAM. NEA requires these applications by the deadline of January 20, 2023.
2. Subsidize the individual local’s budget to pay for union business release time with a plan to increase the local union budget when subsidy ends. This grant may be for up to 2 years. 

Grant applications for this grant will be accepted from October 1, 2022 to January 20, 2023.
Grants are limited to $10,000 in each calendar year. Grants may be approved for up to 2 years

School Related Professionals and Private Sector Locals are encouraged to apply for this grant and will be given a preference for selection. Funds are limited as this is a pilot project. Not all applications will be approved. Please complete the attached application. The more detailed and specific you can be the better. The application must be signed by the local president and approved by your local union Board. The plan must include the Labor Relations Specialist & NYSUT Regional Director.
