In this session we will explore the tenets of the LAP program. Participants will learn about a brief history of the program and will then take a deeper dive into the expectations of the week, the year, and the program.

Team Building

This workshop is focused on building and managing effect teams during LAP and beyond. It will act as an ice breaker focused on identifying the traits and tendencies of team members and highlighting the value of team members. Theories on group development and team effectiveness will be shared and lead to discussions on best practices.

Road Map to Action: Campaign Planning

Participants will perform a deep dive into their pre-assessments to identify broad areas they would like to address as they develop their LAP plan. Participants will be guided through a SWOT analysis of their local to ensure they are addressing their needs, the needs of their district and those of the community at large. Participants will explore and try out a variety of planning tools they can use to ensure the greatest success of their LAP campaign.

Developing Vision, Mission, Values

Mission, vision, and value statements are important tools in the strategic plan of a local. Well-crafted statements can serve as a road map for accomplishing goals and as a guide for making decisions. This session will help participants understand the difference between mission, vision and value statements and will allow them to explore and articulate their local’s unique story. Locals will create a plan to use this knowledge to craft meaningful statements that will be a framework for future actions.

Issue ID, Goal Setting

In this workshop participants will examine their current leadership structure, the functionality of that leadership, and how to identify future leaders, using internal organizing tools, to bring them into the fold of the organization.

Communication Tools and Developing Your Brand

Developing a proper communications plan can be one of the best ways to save yourself time and effort while also doing a better job at communicating with your members and the general public. In this session, we will go over what a successful communications plan can look like, how to set one up that best fulfills your objectives without overwhelming you. We will also cover developing your brand. Branding is a collection of visuals and words representing your union and can immediately help convey your mission, vision and values to your members and the outside world. In this session, we cover the basics of branding. How to create a brand that is unique to your union and serves to guide and unite your members. We'll also discuss the best process for rebranding.

Community Engagement Overview

This session will analyze the differences between community service and community engagement. Locals will have the opportunity to identify community groups coupled with conducting an inventory of engagement opportunities with these groups. Political Action Overview

This workshop will help members dissect and understand the political landscape in their region. Locals will learn how to develop systems, structures, and plans to become more politically involved and effective in local, state, and national advocacy and electoral campaigns. We will review the process of setting-up legislative and political action committees, endorsement processes, and a Vote-Cope drive to prepare your local for future political and issues campaigns.

Social Justice Introduction

Learn how to promote racial and social justice, increase cultural awareness, and create a more inclusive environment for your local, district, and community. The goal is to bridge cultural divides and make our locals, schools, and communities more welcoming for people of all abilities and backgrounds, by helping participants see beyond their own personal world view.
